Every time someone comments about spectators of the Inauguration as "braving" "frigid cold"/"freezing temperatures"/etc., I think WHINERS.

Dude. Minnesota will not see such warmth (30 F/-1 C) until April. It is about 60-70 degrees (F) hotter here in DC than it is in Minneapolis.

It feels fucking great, not cold, you pansies.

That was kind of driving me nuts too-- I read a blog feed of a lady who was there, and she said that she was cold and inconvenienced because she had to wait out in the cold. She did say that she was glad that she got to go, but still-- I think that weather is something that can seriously be protected against. Our weather is too cold to be out in no matter what you're wearing!

After a certain point-- like -20 F or so-- I don't even recognize it as a "cold" feeling anymore, just as intense pain: it just feels like the hand of God is trying to peel your flesh from your bones. Your face is rubbed raw from the wind; and your eyes throb and sting as the liquid in them tries to freeze. The pain gets into your bones and just aches for hours and hours.

Above 10 F or so...that's cold. But that's also tolerable. You can prepare for that and deal with it.

Above 30 or higher? Wear a sweater and another pair of socks and get over yourself.

My parents-- who have lived in WI their entire lives, sometimes complain about the cold. When I tell them to get better winter jackets, they sigh and complain more. Just wear more clothes, and everything will be all right!

I taken my coat, but almost always strip it off within a half hour. I simply overheat. Once I've been exposed to the deep cold of -28 C or so, my body can't handle a sudden jump to -1 or warmer; I've even gotten nauseous before from changes like that. Of course, it doesn't help that I brought my winter coat, and not a lighter fall jacket. If a coat is comfortable in -20 or colder, then it's probably too warm for -5 or higher.

Not everyone has the same cold tolerance, especially if they aren't used to it. More importantly, people who don't come from places with frigid winters just don't have the appropriate kind of clothes that would make 30 degree weather comfortable. Cut those people some slack! :D

I didn't say it was fair or kind. And I'm okay with that; I would expect someone from the south to laugh at me in the summer if I whined about the heat and humidity, or to chide me if I fainted from heat stroke-- what am I, some sort of wuss? or just an idiot? In those circumstances, I should know that it's hot (for me), and plan accordingly.

30F?! Shut the fuck up. That counts as neither frigid nor freezing.

Let 'em come up here and live on a solid sheet of ice for six months.

I should also say: I'm so fucking jealous of where you are right now.

Eh... I'm actually really bored. I forgot how lame vacations can be-- I've read all the National Geographics, most of my Bible and the two other books I brought with me, The Idiot's Guide to Cooking Science, Jurassic Park, and Mere Christianity; we didn't go to the inauguation; we hit the Smithsonian; it's not my computer so I use it sparingly; and I am tired of tv. There's really nothing to do outdoors, so I haven't even really gotten to enjoy the weather.

It's very limiting to be away from home and in someone else's space.

...as this point, I just want to go home. I want my computer, my bookshelves, my rats and snake and cat, my room, my shower and towels and supplies, my food and kitchen space, my weed and pipe, my roommates. Even, in some ways, my job.

Blah.
