I just finished watching Fullmetal Alchemist.
I have one thing to say:
*brains go splat*
I so entirely didn't see (most of) that coming at all, even having already seen up to episode 43 previously.
...I really don't know what I think of that at all.
I am very belatedly fangirling over Greed and Lust. Two extremely kick-ass characters; they did their thing with perseverance and dignity.
Even Gluttony was cute and sad near the end, pining over Lust, right before Dante wiped his "mind".
Wrath... Well, Wrath kept getting loonier and loonier, and you don't find out too much of what happened to him except that Winly fitted him with auto-mail. O_o;;; Winly gave a psycho-boy named "Wrath" auto-mail and sent him out into the world. (However, I will say that Wrath + Automail = Hotness, and I never thought I'd say/think that!)
Totally FUBAR.
I can't believe they left it there, though. I do think it was a good choice; I'm all about abrupt endings-- stop while the reader/viewer is still hooked... however, there is totally space wide open for a sequel series or bunch of OVAs if they wanted to make them.
Wendy and I watched the entire series in three sittings. Eps 1-18, then 18-38, and 38-the end. No, we don't have real lives.
I will be rewatching it sometime in the next two weeks with Tom, and Jen still hasn't seen the end, so it's going to be pounded into my head pretty good for fic purposes.

Date: 2005-03-18 12:56 am (UTC)It's a fantastic ending - and I'm sorry the manga is retarded and on a completely different timeline.
But it's sad, and it makes me hurt, and go "WTF!?"
But it leaves lots of fic possibilities! And now the movie comes out in 126 days, so that's pretty awesome. ^^
Glad you finally saw it all!

Date: 2005-03-18 01:08 am (UTC)I stuck me as being a LOT like the ending of Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, actually, in the style, delivery, and quality of the ending.
...and I'm peeved. I spend all last spring writing a fantasy story that was my senior thesis in college (and yes, watching FMA), and the main thrust of it was that when we die we leave this world and go to another world, and that some people can go back and forth through the two via death and dreams and so forth. ...just like the Gate in FMA.
Man, I guess great minds do think alike.
Movie??

Date: 2005-03-18 02:38 am (UTC)Oh god I know how you feel.
On one hand, it kind of felt like a major cop-out-- so much stuff was still unexplained or left hanging, and on the other hand... well, live never wraps things up nice and neatly and stories that do usually feel cheap.
Word.

O_o?
Huh...never read that. ^^

XD
I've had some issues like that before, actually - the Gate is sort of a parallel and an explanation for a few different things for me, that I'm not actually willing to explain in journal comments, and I've had theories so very similar to it before that it's just....wow. Yeah. They do think alike. ^^

It comes out in 126 days in Japan!
Give me your email or AIM me (my AIM is EdwardtheFMA) and I'll give you the movie spreads with the info on them.

Date: 2005-03-18 09:22 am (UTC)Yeah, I didn't know about the movie. I'd heard some rumors, but that was a while back, and I've been mostly out of touch with the fandom since I wasn't able to finish watching the series when it ended in Japan.
Will do! I'm not often on AIM, but you've just given me a reason to be on it more. :) WindChaser2

Date: 2005-03-18 12:10 pm (UTC)*Extends a big friendly lynx paw to ya*... Ozen mentioned you, and I wanted you to know I just subscribed you to as_it_were.
Also, hope you don't mind me adding you as a Friend. I'm a longtime anime and manga devotee, though I'm selective as hell with it. I gravitate to the moodier, deeper, or mindfuck titles, or the exact opposite: immensely silly, bizarre, parody types.
Look forward to getting to know you. >:-)

Date: 2005-03-18 12:21 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm on an anime kick currently, watching and rewatching and fanfic writing and analyzing. :) That's why there's so much of it in my journal lately.
Feel free to friend me; I feel it's safe to say that I'm a fairly interesting person most of the time. Of course, feel free to read my back-entries, particularly the one before this one. ^_^
Ozen mentioned you, and I wanted you to know I just subscribed you to as_it_were.
Thank you very much!

Date: 2005-03-19 11:18 pm (UTC)..upon seeing your 'molest a priest', my first thought was 'Sanzo or Miroku?' XD;;;
*ahem* Anyway. End of FMA. Crack? Yea, verily. *nod* Althought the fact that Envy is also an Elric and Ed and Al's half brother just pushed allll the right buttons for me *G* And Wrath seems to have.. er, mellowed? >.>;; don't know if that's the right word, but at least he can't do alchemy anymore, since he doesn't have any human alchemist bits now(and thus will have to resort to other means of being nefarious XD; ). It really depends on how his train of thought goes and what happens to him - if he goes 'alchemy killed my mom', he could be another Scar in the making. >_o;

Date: 2005-03-19 11:48 pm (UTC)Yeah, I think Wrath could end up being a really cool character post-series, depending on what direction one postulates his angry little mind might go. Does he-- like Lust did-- have any desire to be human? Or to fit in with human society? Or will he spend all his time being a wild thing in the woods? Will he ever be anything other than completely furious with Izumi?
See, I found out about the Envy = half brother thing and shrieked, "AHHHHH! YOU MEAN I UNWITTING WROTE ELRICEST!?!?!?" And then tried to gouge my own eyes out. I have come to grips with this... Although, you could argue that it isn't even true; that that form was merely one Envy took to shock Ed (which worked). *shrugs* Not that it matters much. I will continue writing Envy/Ed smut, because dammit, I love it and because I was one of the first people to write this pairing and I really love it. ^_^
