...but the cover of this week's Newsweek kind of makes me want to eviscerate someone just a little bit.

The design is simple. The cover reads, "What Women Want" in red, feminine handwriting with a tube of red lipstick beneath the words (as though the headline was written with it).

First of all, drop with the fucking cute, Newsweek. Lipstick? Really? Because nothing says "grown-up important things like politics and government are discussed inside!" like a cover that looks like it was designed by Cosmopolitan rejects. (Or seventeen year olds.)

Oh, that must be because all women wear make-up. Make-up is a defining characteristic of femininity, right?

Please.

Freud was a sexist bastard with a motherfucker complex. Also, since women make up 52% of the population; asking what women want is asking what half of the goddamn planet wants. It's fair to say, in fact, that we want most of the same fucking things the other half wants: clean water, sanitation, shelter, food, good health, community and family, etc., etc.

The sexes aren't actually all that different, you fucktards.

Jesus, I'm so sick of this GET THE WOMAN VOTE!!!!!!! bullshit. News flash: I want a good president, period. I don't care if they have a female running mate. I'm not gonna orgasm all over the place just because there's a politician who thinks breast cancer is a serious issue. I hate everything so much :(

I'm not even sure she thinks breast cancer is a serious issue. :/ She sure as hell doesn't seem to think women's health is a good thing.

Yeah, pretty much. I'm rather disgusted by the fact that the "female vote" is treated like something...weird. Jesus, we're just people. What's so hard about that idea?

Hey, now, there ARE differences between men and women.

Granted, that doesn't mean people need to act like women are bizzare aliens from a foreign galaxy.

Women want pretty much the same things men want. We want to be treated like people, rather than like cattle, or delicate glass or some shit. We want love, and friends, and family. We want to be treated with respect. We want to be treated like thinking human beings, rather than children.

I don't get why it's so hard for people to understand that women want respect more than we want pretty shoes, rose petals, and guys with huge penises that speak three languages and own a mansion and a pure white stallion named Fluffy to carry us off into the freaking sunset.

I always wonder how much of the popular woman stereotype is due to a male dominated culture or women taking feminism to mean freedom to express said stereotypes more loudly.

Mom and I were talking one day about equal rights and she made the comment "but men and women aren't equal, they have their own strengths and weaknesses". Took me a bit to gather a response, but it went something along the lines of "Each may be capable of different things, but all should be treated as equals. Denying or specializing rights for what someone is, rather than who someone is usurps the very notion of a nation united and free."

Well... ok so I almost never use "usurp" in conversation, but you get the point. :)

Also, I've said for a long time now that important figures with issues don't worry me even half as much as those that buy into them. A leader can only get away with things if those under him agree or are complacent. I can't blame the person using their boobies to gain power as much as I blame those who would grant power for that fact alone.
