Yep, fuck. I broke half of my first molar off last night. D:
Which actually doesn't really bother me all that much in and of itself. I mean, it's not like it hurts and I can still eat.
But it's breaking off at gum-level, which means that the roots are still embedded. D: D:
So tomorrow, Lyko's going to try calling some of the dentists in the Metro with sliding fees and free services, because it seriously can't be put off anymore.
This is going to be a) terrifying, b) painful, and c) expensive no matter what.
Fuuuuuuuck.

But other than that, yesterday was another good day at work.
I got two of phone numbers-- Jinya's and Krista's-- since "we need to hang out sometime", which gives me the warm fuzzies.
I managed to make Chris from cafe blush like a girl on our first breaks by playing/psuedo-flirting with him. (...he said that he tasted like he was 21. I raised a brow and grinned and went, "Oh, really? Taste yourself often?" and off we went down into the gutter.)
We decided that we need to have cage matches. That'd be awesome.

Anyway. Got to run.

HAY, I've broken my molar, too(two of them, actually, but one got pulled). I can feel it at the moment.

I broke the other one, too, but I ended up getting it extracted. And speaking from the perspective of one TERRIFIED(see: need to be sedated to get an x-ray) of dentists, it could have been worse... the only reason I got it pulled was because my fear of dentists made me hesitate to go. But it really wasn't too awful in retrospect, and the recovery wasn't bad. I hardly had to take my Norcos.

That makes me feel a lot better about the whole thing, 'cause I'm both TERRIFIED of seeing dentists (hence why my teeth are in this bad of shape) to the point of feeling sick already and because well, having to get a tooth extracted when I'm as young as I am makes me feel...well, unattractive. Like I can't even take care of myself and am some sort of festering pit of disease. (Even though I brush my teeth daily and listerine often.) D: D: D:

I know that it's relatively common and all, but I still feel a little icky, you know?

Trust me, I know what ya mean.

I have really soft enamel(inherited it from my mother), so my teeth break and all regardless of what I do... and I brush them a -lot-. Like... between snacks, even. And still I've had to have one tooth extracted, and need to get another one pulled that's also broken exactly the way yours is. The one I got extracted was the same- the recovery's not bad, really. : ) It wasn't too terrible, although I was unconcious the whole time they were working on it.

What's really super fun is that at the rate my enamel's eroding, I need to get veneers/dentures/etc by the time I'm thirty. Funfun. I really feel like a beauty queen.

I'll live. The only parts that make me wince are the cost and the recovery time. Blah.

Yeah, I know! I was able to totally tease Chris because I'm not wound up tight enough to explode around him, but Joe makes me stupid. Still, I think one of the next times I see him I'm just going to be blunt. I mean, hell, there's nothing wrong with wanting to hang out, dammit, and even if that's all that happens, that's still cool.
Argggh. I'm a dumbass.

Oh, that's a great way to make him blush ... ask him out! Kill two birds with one stone. XD Didn't you say he was having some sort of Halloween party? Dude, be all like, "yo, I'm coming to your thing." And he'll all be "..... yes Orochimaru sama."

If it makes you feel any better, I know a guy who lost all of his teeth because he was so depressed he didn't pay attention to things like personal hygiene. So you don't have it half as bad as he does. Poor kid is only 26.

I thought about doing just that...but I don't know if I'm going to be in town that weekend, since I've been kind of planning on going up to my alma mater's HUGE annual Oct. 28th party. (There's a long story with that one that I might explain later.)

And he'll all be "..... yes Orochimaru sama."
...best. compliment. EVER.
I hope you now know that I'll have to play with my purple eyeliner more. *sniiiickers*

Eek. No, actually, the dentist was took a look around and went, "Well, other than the problems that brought you here, there's not a whole lot else actually wrong with you" which made me feel alot better. I guess I'm not actually falling apart yet.

::writhes around in her chair in sympathy pains:: D: D: D: D: ooooow. D: Here's hoping you can get a reasonable price on the procedure. Yeesh.

Well, the problem is that I don't know what proceedure I need. I mean, an extraction's cheap, but then there's a HOLE where I usually chew things, right? And if they can repair what's left of the tooth, I'd really prefer that to having it yanked, since, after a brief study in the mirror, I realize I'm only missing about a fourth of it, not half.
So it's somewhere between price and healing time and what's easiest to deal with afterward.

...it doesn't hurt at all. Don't feel pain for me when I'm not feeling anything at all.

Oh ouch man. [sends good luck wishes] Just out of curiousity... How does a molar break? Isn't that hard to do?

Hee. It's fun to make guys blush. >D

...not if it's already rotted from the inside out from an untreated cavity/infection, no. I've never been to the dentist in my life, so my teeth are in terrible shape.

It is. ♥

Get it pulled and/or rootcanalled as soon as possible. Don't wait until an infection gets in it -- which it will if you ignore it.

Both my husband and I lost teeth this way. It happens.

I think I've already had infections in it. *shrugs*
Root canal? Can't afford it. Not at a thousand dollars or so a pop. Besides, there's not enough left of that one to do a root canal on.
So I guess I'm going to the last of it pulled, and maybe the one on the other side, too. I don't like it, but I don't see any other option.

Yeah, go tomorrow and get it pulled. If you have a college of dentistry near by you might be able to get it taken out for free. You can get a bridge later when you can afford it.

Sucks to lose a tooth, but not the end of the world. LOTS of people are missing teeth.

Don't wait on getting it pulled though. When my husband got his infected broken wisdom tooth pulled there was a story all over the news about a guy without insurance who actually died from a neglected tooth infection. Those things can go septic and systemic.

Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] kytyngurl2 told me that they'll do extractions at the U of M for less than a hundred a pop, and I've looked up a small glossary of other clinics that work on sliding scale and at low fees.

How much IS a bridge/implant? That's what I'm trying to figure out currently.

From: [identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com
I don't know. I think a bridge is less than an implant. The dentist who will be pulling your tooth tomorrow a.m. will know.

Yeah, shit. I'm going to have to miss more class and probably call into work on Wednesday. Pfft. This sucks.

Ouch!

I did the same thing so I feel for you. I did not have any dental insurance either. I just got insurance from dentalplans.com since my dentist is covered in that plan. You pay $99 a year (single) and everything after that is 1/2 price. Not good but not too bad either.

*hugs*

good luck and take care,
Chris

Cuddles later if I see you.

'Tastes like he's 21'? What is he, Scotch? What a funny thing to say!
