Slept in, amen, thank ya god!
What a wonderful thing it is to not have to get up for anything.

Went to Anime Detour simply because I could. Got lost getting there. Got there and felt-- by far-- like the most calm, normal, ordinary, cool person on the planet. The majority of the other attendees were very loud, squealing teenagers who mispronounced "yaoi" and "arigatou," and had a geek/nerd/dork level of about 10,000+. I mean, seriously.
I stood out for several reasons. 1) I was dressed normally. 2)I have less hair than everyone else there, and am androgynous in the wrong way. Everyone knows that in anime and manga, men are supposed to look like women. I'm a woman that's starting to look like a boy. (Actually, I think a lot of people there really liked my shaved head/button-down/black tie pseudo-masculine look.) 3)I was old enough to get a yellow "san" badge, but not so old that I was in the ranks of the very, very creepy. (Unlike that one old guy wearing a badge that said something about Sailor Mercury... Get away from me ASAP, ya pedophile!)

It was fun though. It's nice being able to randomly start talking to strangers and they don't look at you like you're threatening their life or something. No, in fact, I had the opposite problem: I started talking to one geek-boy, and I think I gained an admirer (think Sims: he had a little pink heart or picture of me above his head)... he followed me around for like ten minutes, babbling at me. One of the vendors absolutely adored me-- she kept telling me to come back to talk and amuse her, and insisted that I say good-bye before I left the con. :)
I saw one person there dressed like a priest-- a really cute short Asian kid; I almost felt like a scary pedophile looking at him (and I was mostly OK with that; come on, a young androgynous Asian priest? Who can really blame me, considering my tastes?). I kept looking at him as he circulated through the crowd, thinking, "Damn, I really should know that character he's cosplaying," but my memory was uncooperative until I got home and stared at my Winamp skin for a few minutes. Tomonori Nakaura from Juvenile Orion! *smacks self* Now that I see the character, I can tell you that that was probably one of the best cosplay costumes there.
Ok, the reeeaaallly tall Ed Elric was cool, too. As was the Vash wandering about with a hand-written sign reading "Kiss Vash! $1". I should have given him a dollar. XD

Total things purchased: two packages of really tasty strawberry pocky, a weird soda thing, a totally cute Envy keychain, a pornographic Hellsing dj, and two t-shirts-- one reads "Pet me" and the other reads "HENTAI-- Caution: contains explicit materials." I was really tempted by several other shirts: "Got sake?," "I can't dance without arrows," and several beautifully designed wolf/fantasy shirts. I was also seriously tempted by the D&D style Hellsing RP rulebook... GEEK FACTOR = +500! Heh.

I was able to avoid spending more simply because I am phased out of my manga obsession for now (although I am keeping up with the series I've already started), and I am a firm believer in not having to pay for my anime, therefore I could breeze past all the tables with manga and DVDs. I could also avoid the popular series I haven't seen (Naruto, Prince of Tennis), shrug off the ones I've seen but am indifferent to (DBZ, Sailor Moon), and only pause briefly to browse through racks of stuff for series I've seen and like but would need to find something really special to blow my money on (Trigun, Inuyasha, Fushigi Yuugi.) Fruits Basket and Saiyuki stuff didn't interest me too much because I'm in manga-verse with those series, not anime-verse. My biggest hazard was the FMA stuff, and the little bits of the other short, lesser known series I tend to like.
Actually, I'm surprised. A lot of the oldies-but-goodies were there-- Trigun, Inuyasha, DBZ, Sailor Moon, Fruits Basket, some Gundam Wing, etc.-- and there was a LOT of FMA stuff, but relatively little of any other new series, or even some of the older ones. Very little DNAngel, Wandaba Style, Chobits, or Hellsing; nothing for Wolf's Rain, Elfen Lied, Chrno Crusade... Some of this is understandable; but some of it's quite surprising. The lack of anything Wolf's Rain really gets me, considering how popular it is.

I'll probably go back before the weekend's out, if for nothing else that to grab another package of pocky, maybe another shirt, and an Inuyasha keychain for Jen. If I go back on Sunday, I might be able to get some deals before the vendors close up. And I might be able to kiss Vash. =^_~=

Speaking of anime, I have several new bishies I adore. Like everyone else, I agree that Dark from DNAngel is the sex. The anime seems much more interesting and less shojo than the manga, which is better for holding my rather short attention span.
I also think I really like Ayumu Narumi and his sister Madoka from Spiral. Yay~!

Since I have a week off, I might actually get through a few of these series I've been collecting and have not yet watched, such as Spiral and Wolf's Rain and Saiyuki Reload. That'd be spiffy.

____
Jess would cosplay (in order of ease of being able to get my into the costume): Hige from Wolf's Rain (I <3 Hige! He's so me!), Miroku from Inuyasha, Hakkai from Saiyuki, Itsuki from Juvenile Orion, Wolfwood from Trigun, Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugi, Nana from Elfen Lied, Shigure from Fruits Basket, Seras or Schrodinger from Hellsing.
