This isn't really all that odd of a pairing, though. C'mon; this relationship has two years of canon space between the end of the series and the beginning of the movie in which to grow, which makes it far, far more "legitimate" than almost any other pairing I've tried.)
This was a little unexpected treat for me, too. I sat down to write a drabble and got this, and it didn't even take all that long. This was one of the easiest things I've ever written; it just flowed out so nicely.
...this is just the first piece of an arc, so there will be more. Damn them.
