The moral code espoused in Jesus' teachings and the moral code of the American political conservatives are not just completely unrelated, but in fact nearly perfect inverses of one another.
I cannot recommend the book Moral Politics by George Lakoff highly enough to anyone even remotely interested the dichotomy of American politics. It's an amazing-- and occasionally incredibly frustrating-- read. I've learned a lot and I haven't even finished it yet.
